By the time the big day arrives; the meal can be enjoyed with planning ahead to still enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving meal without completely sacrificing blood sugar levels.

Holiday potlucks are enticing, but don’t let them hinder a health goal. Here are a few ideas to help you stay on track.

  • Bringing a favorite lower-fat item, like a cooked vegetable dish, will help ease concerns; you can always fall back on it.
  • Choosing white meat protein over dark meat will save some calories. Go further by avoiding the crunchy turkey skin, which contains mainly fat. Save the extra calories for hidden butter added to potatoes, stuffing, and vegetables.
  • Large scoops of dips, gravy, and butter, so take it easy and half the portion size.
