Six steps to help sore eyes.

My eyes used to be so red, itchy, and dry from hours of staring at computer and phone screens under glaring fluorescent lights. Consequently, I was addicted to over-the-counter and prescription eye drops for relief.

Working at home still has me staring at screens all day, but thankfully no more fluorescent lights; daylight and regular light bulbs decreased my eye irritation considerably.

So, I went further by experimenting with the following steps that have improved my computer eyes immensely.

  1. Blink many times daily.
  2. Roll eyes up and down, side to side several times over the day.
  3. Look away from the screen to stare for many seconds a long distance at least three times during the day.
  4. Purchase at least two eyecups and keep them within easy reach in a clean area by bathroom and kitchen sinks. (You can purchase them at a drugstore or pharmacy.) I rinse my eyes with lukewarm water every morning before applying makeup and after washing my face before adding night cream at night.
  5. Keep your hands away from your eyes. (Wash your hands thoroughly with soap if you need to touch eyes.)
  6. Drench a cotton swab under running tap water until soft; then lightly touch both corners of each eye morning and night. (Works for collecting stray eyelashes and cat dander).

Since I have started to do all these steps, I no longer require eye drops of any kind.
